| So, it's official... I'M ENGAGED! to the man I love most in the world... Jason Allen Clapper. Last Weds I began to suspect that Jason would soon propose and when he asked me to go on a picnic with him to the PA Grand Canyon (where we went on our first date last fall) my suspicion grew. When he called the next day and told me that he would be fasting and praying until the picnic and asked me not to call him for a few days, I was sure it was so he could prepare mentally and spiritually for this big decision. I joined him in fasting and praying. On Saturday I drove up for our picnic. It was a beautiful cool day and we hiked the mile-long path down the mountain to the river at the bottom... the trees are just about to change color and the hike passes several great waterfalls. We set up a blanket on a big rock by the river and Jay got his guitar out so we could worship God for a little while. Then he put the guitar down and opened the guitar case and brought out my ring box. Since I knew he would propose and he knew I knew and since we had been talking about marriage for some time... there was no suspense or awkwardness or nervousness. He put the ring on my finger (a 1/4 carrat round cut diamond set in white gold) and said, "I love you Laurie, will you marry me?" I said, "Yes" and then we had a long talk about how crazy the past couple days had been while preparing for that moment since we had not talked during that time. After praying together for our future we packed up and hiked back up the mountain. It may not have been "perfect", but it was perfect for me. And, even though I was an emotional mess on Friday, it was nice to know ahead of time so that I could fast and pray with him, get my hair cut, and remember to bring a camera.
God is sooo good! He has blessed me with a wonderful guy who loves me very much and who encourages me in my faith. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life serving God with Jason. You can all certainly be praying for us during our rather lengthy engagement. We will not be getting married until Jason graduates in 2008.
| Life is crazy and I love it. People in Williamsport are crazy too. And I love it. Top ten favorite things about my new job/location:
10. Strange guys barking at me and trying to tickle my feet 9. The cute little houses around here... with lots of lighthouses as lawn ornaments (ours lights up!) 8. Everyone here is so easy to talk to. People are outgoing sometimes even to the point of being obnoxious. It's great! 7. My apartment is nice and I love my roomies. 6. Getting to be involved in ministry on a college campus without having to do school work as well. 5. Personality/team building training with my new staff team (I'm an ENFJ) 4. Free stuff all the time! Free movies, comedians, food, stuff... everyone should live in a college town. 3. Date nights with Jason. 2. Growing in my faith as God stretches me. Teaching me that I need to be so much more humble. 1. Seeing God move in the lives of students
Seriously, I think God has some big plans for these campuses this year. The girls at Mansfield seem so thirsty to grow and learn and I am so excited to be leading a girl's Bible study here at PCT. It starts tonight, so if you want to be praying for that, I'd really appreciate it. Pray that it would be all about God and not at all about me. Well, better get back to prepping for the study. More later.
| "I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders." (Ps 9:1)
David told God that he would shout His praises in all the nations. He knew that God was great and that it wouldn't be right to keep it to himself and I agree. God has been good to me and I will shout about it.
By the grace of God, all of my financial support for my internship with Campus Crusade came in at the last minute. $33,000 in 3 months! That's incredible! Not because of me, to be sure. Ah, but all things are possible with God. I was still a few thousand short with 2 hours to go and I'd exhausted my options. Fortunately, my boyfriend had been speaking to people on my behalf that night and called in the 11th hour to report that Lord had raised the rest of my support through those contacts. I was shocked. Praise Jesus for his abundant provision and perfect timing!
And thank you so very much for all of your encouragement, prayer, and
support as I took this step of faith. Thank you for being faithful to
give as you felt called. You have all played a big part in this
miracle and I pray that God would bless you for it.
Now that my support is in, I can attend intern orientation next week and then I will begin to prepare to move to Williamsport. I am so excited! I will still be working on raising a little more support so that I might be better able to minister to the students in the region. A little extra support could go a long way in resourcing the campuses... books, materials, conferences, outreaches, Bible studies, etc. So, you can still help me with referals and prayer. I'll be sending out monthly prayer letters to keep you updated on what God is doing in our region. Thank you again for praying and praising with me! God bless!
